The Shallows 'Same Space Vol. 2' EP

Released today (03 May) The Shallows are back with their brand new EP Same Space Vol. 2. Since Rock Revolver introduced them in January, the group have progressed excellently and their latest offering is proof of that. Their debut EP About Time Vol. 1 was released to high acclaim and received backing from BBC6Music, BBC Introducing and Absolute Radio.
The four tunes on their new EP are an impressive mix of indie rock. Take opening number, Thieves, a radio ready anthem with a rocking beat, sleek and thrilling riffs and bouncy drum grooves. It's a slice of music that demands attention, especially with lyrics such as "You'll never learn, until you get burned." The Shallows sound like the lovechild of The Strokes and Two Door Cinema Club (the one they never knew about) and the soaring, euphoric vocals of Tom Skelton craft a blissed out tune that hits all the right areas in Guessing Games.
Punchy with a twist, Running For Cover is insanely hummable and the crisp production adds dramatically to its appeal. Changing the key and closing the boundary shoving EP with The Enemy, as a listener we are treated to a line of shrill feedback before The Shallows tear it up one final time with Skelton's now lulling vocals. As the crescendo is approached, loose cascading riffs are strewn across the track, creating a hazier feel - almost as if this song is the pillow talk before sleep descends. The Shallows have done it again with an EP considerably more rich and layered than that of their previous effort. Forget Peace and Palma Violets; The Shallows are the band of 2013.
